The way to find our truest selves is to practice detachment, and a key to this is the embracing of the concept of discernment, rather than judgment. Discerning rather than judging allows us to step outside the splitting of existence into good and bad, which in turn allows the acceptance of the “As Is,” and for us to view our lives in terms of choices that will get us closer or further to our life goals. Dr. Diamond sees his own work, and the work of a healer more generally, as being that of refining his students’ faculty of the discernment of Life Energy.

This short talk is very powerful in illustrating the practical application of discernment. What is discernment? How is it different from judgment and detachment? How can it be applied in a practical way? Dr. Diamond masterfully explains so much in this short clip. The Bible says judge not, that you be not judged. The teachings of the Buddha emphasize detachment. But, what do those concepts mean? I listened to this over and over again, and then created a transcript so that I could reread it occasionally.
